Czech Dreams 2024
Czech Dreams at the Pianodrom in Leeds
Hailing from Edinburgh, the PIANODROM team creates unique playable sculptures made entirely from otherwise unused pianos. As part of an extensive network of makers, artists, performers and volunteers, Pianodrome team designs, builds and installs, then uses the spaces created to host inspiring festivals, one-off events and educational experiences.
In the grand Brodrick Hall at the Leeds City Museum, courtesy of the Leeds International Piano Competition, the unique Old Royal Pianodrome will have its English debut: everybody is invited to drop in and experience the delightful 100-seater piano amphitheatre with lunchtime concerts, micro-shows, theatre and live streams from the piano competition heats.
This amphitheatre is the centre-piece of this year’s Leeds Piano Trail - a series of the piano sculptures, along with playable pianos which will be dotted across the city of Leeds. Get hold of the Piano Trail map, which you can pick up at the Leeds City Museum, and take your friends and family on a tour of the city to find each of the sculptures. Finish the walk in the Pianodrom Amphitheatre with a lunchtime concert by the wonderful piano Duo Ardašev, who will play a four-handed original version of Smetana's stunning My Homeland. This extraordinary concert of Czech Dreams is held under the patronage of H. E. Marie Chatardová, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United Kingdom.
